The Chinese voice acting studio Qi Xiang Tian Wai has released an official statement addressing the growing issue of artificial intelligence infringement within the voice acting industry. The announcement outlines strict opposition to the unauthorized use of AI technologies that replicate or exploit the voices and identities of professional voice actors.

Founded in October 2014 and formally incorporated in January 2016, the studio has played a significant role in major projects connected to HoYoverse. Over time, miHoYo became one of its shareholders, strengthening a long standing collaboration that includes work on titles such as Honkai Impact 3rd and Genshin Impact.

The studio is closely associated with prominent industry figures, including Peng Bo, a sound director known for his contributions to multiple HoYoverse titles and for voicing characters such as Zhongli, Dvalin, and Welt Yang. Another key member is Lin Su, also a sound director and voice actor recognized for roles including Jean, Ganyu, and Murata Himeko. Many affiliated voice actors from the studio have contributed to well known characters across HoYoverse games.

In its statement, the company highlighted that AI related infringement cases have been increasing rapidly, posing serious risks to both production processes and the livelihoods of voice actors. The studio emphasized that this trend is already creating long term challenges for professionals and organizations within the industry.

A central point of the statement focuses on the legal protection of artists. The company reaffirmed that personal rights such as voice, likeness, name, and privacy are fully protected under Chinese law, specifically referencing the Civil Code of the People’s Republic of China. These protections extend to all forms of identity, including stage names, online aliases, and abbreviations.

The studio made it clear that any unauthorized collection or use of voice data for AI training or generation constitutes a serious violation. This includes scenarios where individuals or organizations gather voice samples without written consent and use them through AI technologies, regardless of whether the content is distributed online or offline, or whether it is for commercial purposes.

Importantly, the statement stresses that even partial use of voice data or indirect AI replication is considered infringement, highlighting the strict stance taken by the company. This reflects a broader industry concern about how easily AI tools can replicate voices without proper authorization.

The company also clarified its legal position regarding responsibility. It stated that neither the studio nor its affiliated artists will bear any liability for content generated through unauthorized AI use, placing full responsibility on those who engage in such activities.

In cases where infringement is identified and verified, the studio confirmed that it will pursue legal action through judicial channels to protect its rights and those of its artists. This includes formal legal proceedings aimed at holding violators accountable under the law.

Additionally, Qi Xiang Tian Wai encouraged fans, partners, and the general public to assist in reporting violations, including helping to collect and preserve evidence related to AI misuse. This collaborative approach mirrors broader efforts across the entertainment industry to combat unauthorized use of digital likenesses.

The statement reflects a growing global concern surrounding AI generated content and intellectual property rights, particularly in industries that rely heavily on personal performance and identity, such as voice acting. As AI tools become more advanced, companies and artists are increasingly taking proactive steps to define legal boundaries and protect creative work.

With strong ties to HoYoverse projects and a roster of well known voice actors, Qi Xiang Tian Wai’s firm stance signals that the voice acting industry is entering a new phase of legal enforcement against AI misuse, setting a precedent that may influence similar actions across the global entertainment sector.
