The Permafrost team archetype in Genshin Impact has officially reached one of its strongest states ever, according to a detailed meta analysis circulating within the community. With the arrival of key characters like Skirk, Furina, and Escoffier, players are now exploring what many consider the highest damage ceiling currently available in the game.

Permafrost teams, built around the interaction between Cryo and Hydro elements to permanently freeze enemies, have existed since the early days of Genshin Impact. However, recent updates have transformed this classic composition into a top tier strategy capable of handling both endgame content and high difficulty bosses, especially those requiring Cryo based mechanics.

Historically, the archetype began with iconic setups like Ganyu, Mona, Venti, and Diona, often referred to as one of the first dominant team compositions. This early version relied heavily on area damage scaling and crowd control, allowing players to freeze multiple enemies while dealing massive AoE damage.

As the game evolved, so did the Permafrost meta. The introduction of characters like Kazuha, Ayaka, and Kokomi refined the formula, improving Hydro application consistency, energy generation, and survivability. These changes allowed Permafrost teams to remain viable even as the game shifted toward more complex enemy designs.

Despite periods where bosses could not be frozen, the archetype never fully disappeared. Instead, it adapted. The real turning point came with the release of Furina, whose kit introduced unmatched buff potential and team wide scaling, quickly becoming the core of nearly all modern Permafrost compositions.

Today, the true backbone of Permafrost teams is widely considered to be Furina combined with Escoffier, a Cryo support who provides resistance reduction of up to 55 percent for both Hydro and Cryo, along with team wide healing and powerful buffs. This synergy enables a wide variety of team compositions, giving players flexibility while maintaining extremely high damage output.

At the center of the current meta stands Skirk, a Cryo DPS character whose burst damage and unique mechanics allow for devastating “nuke” rotations. When paired with Furina and Escoffier, Skirk becomes part of what many players call the “Prime Permafrost team,” capable of delivering some of the fastest clear times in the game.

Another powerful variation includes Neuvillette, who can either replace or complement Skirk. This creates hybrid compositions often referred to as “Intergalactic teams,” where both characters contribute to massive damage cycles supported by buffs and healing. These setups are considered among the strongest Free to Play friendly high damage teams currently available.

One of the key strengths of modern Permafrost teams is their flexibility in the fourth slot, where players can include characters like Citlali, Yelan, Rosaria, or Shenhe depending on their roster and playstyle. This adaptability ensures that the archetype remains accessible to a wide range of players while still offering high optimization potential for advanced users.

Another defining feature is the 15 second rotation cycle, which allows players to maintain constant uptime on buffs, healing, and elemental reactions. Proper rotation management is crucial, with most strategies prioritizing Furina’s abilities first, followed by healing and support setup, before switching into the main damage dealer.

The analysis also highlights that Permafrost teams represent the ultimate synergy for Furina, reinforcing the idea that recent character releases were intentionally designed to support this archetype. With multiple Cryo and Hydro DPS options available, including Ayaka, Wriothesley, and even niche picks like Ayato or Mualani, the composition continues to expand in versatility.

As Genshin Impact continues to evolve, the dominance of Permafrost teams shows no signs of slowing down. With Skirk’s release solidifying the archetype’s peak performance, and ongoing support from characters like Furina and Escoffier, players now have access to one of the most powerful and adaptable team strategies in the game’s history.
