Genshin Impact 7.2 Leak Points to a New Stygian Onslaught Lineup and Shield Mechanic

A Genshin Impact Version 7.2 leak claims Stygian Onslaught will feature a new lineup and an enemy shield that can be broken only with Stellar or Electro damage. Both claims come through Genshin Universe. The account attributes the lineup material to WWWhatever and the shield detail to LoveHappy, but the second post quotes the first. That makes the two posts one uncorroborated reporting chain, not independent confirmation. Both are marked STC, or subject to change, and HoYoverse has not confirmed the alleged Version 7.2 content.

The first X post says only “7.2 STYGIAN ONSLAUGHT,” credits WWWhatever, includes the STC label and attaches an image presented as the lineup. It does not give a written list of enemies. Accordingly, the image is evidence of what Genshin Universe shared, but it is not a basis for naming the encounters or saying that any recognizable enemy will appear in the live rotation.

The follow-up X post, credited by Genshin Universe to LoveHappy, makes the more specific claim. It says an unspecified enemy has a shield “that can only be broken with Stellar or Electro DMG.” It then says players who do not have a Stellar DPS can use an Electro DPS to break the shield. The post supplies no shield value, timing, duration, damage requirement or name for the enemy carrying it. The underlying posts from WWWhatever and LoveHappy were not independently recovered.

How Stygian Onslaught officially works now

Official Stygian Onslaught rules provide context for why the report matters, without verifying it. HoYoverse describes the mode as a permanent combat event that becomes available regularly in each version. In the latest official event notice located for this report, players select a difficulty and then complete three phases, for a total of three time-limited battles. Winning all three completes the selected difficulty.

The current ladder has six levels in ascending order: Normal, Advancing, Hard, Menacing, Fearless and Dire. Enemies become tougher and the rules become more restrictive as the selected difficulty rises. Starting with Hard, clearing the current level unlocks the next one. All six difficulties support Co-Op with up to four players, but the challenge rewards for Fearless and Dire require solo completion. Those conditions make the mode more than a single encounter check. At its upper levels, it tests whether one roster can cover three separate battles under tighter restrictions.

The verified no-reuse rule at higher difficulties

HoYoverse’s official mode tips spell out the roster rule that separates the lower and higher levels. On Normal, Advancing and Hard, characters can be deployed repeatedly without restriction. On Menacing and above, a character used in one battle cannot take part in the battles that follow. The restriction also applies to the Weapons and Artifacts equipped by that character.

This rule is established for the mode itself. Its connection to the alleged Version 7.2 shield remains conditional. If one of the three reported encounters really includes a shield limited to Stellar or Electro damage, anyone tackling Menacing, Fearless or Dire would have to reserve access to one of those damage categories for that battle. The same characters and their equipped gear could not then be carried into the remaining fights. That would turn a shield check into a three-party allocation problem, particularly for players seeking the higher-difficulty solo rewards. The leak does not provide enough detail to determine which characters, reactions or equipment would satisfy the check most efficiently.

Official Version 7.0 shield and Ward precedent

HoYoverse’s Version 7.0 update details show that encounter-specific shields, Wards and Stellar interactions already exist in official enemy design. This is precedent for the broad type of mechanic, not evidence for the leaked lineup or rule.

The official notes say the Immortal Construct gains several HP shields during its Lifeflare state. All of those shields must be broken to interrupt its “Scorching Radiance” attack, while triggering Stellar Glimmer reactions prevents it from recovering HP. In a separate example, breaking the Chimeric Winged Lion’s Electro Ward weakens it. Stellar Glimmer can also disrupt some of that enemy’s actions. These descriptions show HoYoverse using different defensive systems with specified ways to counter them. They do not place either enemy in Version 7.2 Stygian Onslaught, and the lineup image is not being used to make that inference.

Why “Stellar or Electro” would be a meaningful limit

The consequential word in the report is “only.” A damage type that merely improves clear speed is an advantage. A shield that accepts only two categories is a composition constraint, assuming it works exactly as Genshin Universe describes. In a mode built around three timed battles, that restriction could determine where a player commits part of the roster before considering the other two encounters. The no-reuse rule would make that decision harder from Menacing onward.

“Stellar” is also unresolved. The leak uses the broad phrase “Stellar DMG,” while HoYoverse’s official Version 7.0 language uses more precise terms, including Stellar Glimmer and named reactions such as Stellar-Conduct and Stellar Swirl. The post does not say whether “Stellar” means Stellar Glimmer generally, one named reaction, several related reactions or another category used in development material. It also does not explain how much qualifying damage the shield needs, when the shield appears, or whether failing to break it delays the fight or blocks completion.

Confirmation would require first-party Version 7.2 material, such as a HoYoverse event notice, update notes or an in-game encounter description that names the lineup and defines the shield interaction. Until then, the identity of the shield bearer, the meaning of Stellar and the claimed damage restriction remain unconfirmed and subject to change.
