HoYoverse has officially announced the full update maintenance preview for Version “Luna III”, confirming when servers will go offline and when players can expect to log in to the newest chapter of the game. This major update, titled “Song of the Welkin Moon: Interlude — A Nocturne of the Far North,” continues the momentum of the Luna era with new story content, character banners and seasonal events. Travelers can also begin pre-installation right now, reducing download time once maintenance ends.
The update maintenance will begin on December 3, 2025 at 06:00 UTC plus 8, with an estimated duration of five hours. This has become the standard maintenance window for most major Genshin patches, giving the development team time to deploy new maps, quest assets, character animations, environmental additions and backend optimizations. During this period, all servers will be temporarily inaccessible, preventing players from logging in, collecting daily commissions or participating in events. As usual, Travelers should plan ahead to finish Resin spending, weeklies and any time-sensitive content before maintenance starts.
As compensation, all eligible players will receive 300 Primogems, calculated as 60 Primogems per hour the servers remain offline. Even if maintenance finishes early, the full 300 Primogems will be distributed automatically through the in-game mail system. Players must be Adventure Rank 5 or above to claim the rewards, and the message will remain valid for a limited time, so logging in after the update is recommended to avoid missing it. This compensation is particularly welcome for those saving for upcoming banners, especially characters like Durin, Jahoda, or future Luna era units teased in official previews.
Alongside the maintenance announcement, HoYoverse has opened pre-installation for all platforms. This feature allows Travelers to download a large portion of the Version “Luna III” files in advance, speeding up the process the moment servers reopen. Pre-installation is especially useful for mobile players and users with slower connections since it reduces waiting time and prevents large download spikes during launch day. PC users can access this function from the launcher, while mobile players will see a cloud-download icon in the settings menu.
Version “Luna III” is expected to deliver a substantial amount of content, and the maintenance preview hints at the scale of the update. The subtitle “A Nocturne of the Far North” suggests a narrative shift toward colder, winter-themed landscapes, potentially expanding lore from Mondstadt, Snezhnaya or Simulanka depending on how the story unfolds. Previous patches introduced major characters tied to the Luna era, and this update is likely to continue expanding their arcs. Players also anticipate new boss fights, Domain expansions, limited-time events and deeper interactions with characters tied to the Welkin Moon storyline.
The inclusion of Jahoda’s increased drop rate during “Rubedo, of White Stone Born” and “Ballad in Goblets” banners, as mentioned in earlier previews, further connects this maintenance period to gameplay planning. Many Travelers are preparing Primogem reserves for these banners, so the 300 Primogem compensation provides a small but appreciated boost ahead of the new version. The arrival of Jahoda to the Standard Banner in the next update also marks a significant shift in the Wanderlust Invocation pool, particularly for players looking to diversify their Anemo support options.
As always, the update preview ensures transparency across the community. By clearly communicating the starting time, expected downtime and compensation details, HoYoverse helps Travelers structure their game sessions, avoid unfinished tasks and enter the new version smoothly. With pre-installation active and maintenance approaching, the countdown to “Luna III” is officially underway.
